Why Is My Ottoman Bed Not Closing? (Common Causes & Fixes)
Share
If your ottoman bed won't close fully or keeps lifting back up, it's usually one of a few simple causes. Here's how to fix it.
1. The mattress is too heavy or too light
Gas-lift pistons are rated for a weight range. A mattress that's too light can make the base rise on its own; too heavy and it won't lift. Check your mattress weight against the bed's recommended range.
2. Gas piston needs adjusting or replacing
Over time gas struts can weaken. If the base no longer holds shut, the pistons may need replacing — a quick, inexpensive part.
3. Bedding caught in the mechanism
Loose duvets or stored items can block the frame from closing. Keep stored items below the rim line.
4. Frame not assembled level
An uneven floor or loose bolts can stop the base seating properly. Re-check all fixings are tight and the frame sits flat.
