UK-Made Ottoman Beds: Why Buying From the Maker Matters

Most ottoman beds sold online in the UK are imported finished and resold. Ours are built in our own UK workshop. That single difference changes what can be customised, how fast an order ships, and whether you can still get a spare part in five years — here's how.

Maker or reseller: how to tell

The quickest test is to ask for something non-standard. A reseller can only sell the sizes and colours that arrive in the container. A manufacturer can change the cut.

Tighter quality control

Building in-house means frame construction, strut fitting and fabric quality are checked while the bed is being made — not after it has crossed a continent. Problems get caught before a frame ships, which is why fewer of them reach customers at all.

Faster lead times — including on custom work

Easier parts and support years later

Gas struts are the wear part on any ottoman bed and eventually need replacing. When we made the frame, we know its strut rating and bracket type, so matching a replacement is straightforward. UK fire-safety compliance

Beds sold in the UK must meet the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, with upholstered bases and mattresses tested to BS 7177 — Low Hazard for domestic use, and a higher rating for contract settings such as hotels and care homes. Manufacturing here means the specification is controlled and documented rather than taken on trust from an overseas supplier.

Choosing UK-made furniture keeps skilled upholstery and joinery work in the country. It also shortens the supply chain, which means fewer shipping miles per bed.

Can a UK manufacturer make a bed to my exact size?

Usually the opposite. Imported stock depends on shipping and customs; building here means most orders, including custom ones, are ready in around a week.
