Is a single ottoman bed suitable for a child's room?

Yes, and it is one of the better uses for one. The base lifts on gas struts rather than springs, so it rises slowly and holds its position instead of dropping. Toys, spare bedding and clothes that outgrow a wardrobe all go underneath. For younger children we would still open and close it for them.
