Tall and high headboards for king size beds

A tall headboard on a king size bed changes the proportions of a room. Standard headboards sit roughly level with the top of the mattress and stop there; a tall or high headboard carries the upholstery well above pillow height, which fills the wall behind the bed and gives the room a focal point instead of a gap.

They are also the more comfortable choice if you sit up in bed to read or watch television — a standard headboard leaves your shoulders against the wall, a tall one doesn't.

Two things to check before ordering a tall headboard:

• Height above the floor — measure from the floor to any window sill, picture rail, radiator or sloped ceiling behind the bed. Tall headboards are the one bedroom item that regularly clashes with a window.
• How it fixes — struts that bolt to a divan base, or a wall-mounted panel. The two are not interchangeable, so check the fixing type on the product page against your bed.

Will a headboard fit any bed frame?

No — fixing type matters. Most of ours attach to a standard bed frame or divan base via struts, but bolt positions vary. Check the fixing type and size on each product page against your existing bed before ordering.

What headboard sizes are available?

All standard UK sizes: single (3ft), small double (4ft), double (4ft6), king size (5ft) and super king (6ft). Match the headboard size to your mattress width.

How tall is a tall headboard?

Heights vary by model, so check the individual product page for the exact measurement — and measure your wall before ordering, particularly if there's a window or radiator behind the bed.

Are upholstered headboards easy to clean?

Most fabric and velvet headboards can be spot-cleaned or vacuumed. Avoid soaking the fabric, and check the care label on your specific model for guidance.

Can I have a headboard made in a custom size or fabric?
