What is a divan bed?

A divan bed is a solid or sprung base upholstered in fabric, usually paired with a matching headboard and sometimes storage drawers built into the base. It's a simpler alternative to a gas-lift ottoman base.

What's the difference between a divan bed and an ottoman bed?

A divan base is fixed, with storage (if any) in drawers at the side or end. An ottoman base lifts on gas struts to reveal a full-width storage well underneath — more storage, but a different mechanism. See our ottoman bed guide for the full comparison.
